CASA announces streamlined AVMED recertification procedure
July 22, 2010
The endorsement on a medical certificate “renew by CASA only” has often resulted in unnecessary delay for pilots and controllers while waiting for CASA to process the information. CASA have recently announced the following change.
To minimise this a new endorsement to a medical is being introduced “for CASA audit”.
Where this is applied:
- DAME’s can extend a certificate if appropriate (ie. “if it will not adversely affect the safety of air navigation”);
- The extension may be for up to 2 months;
- The new medical certificate will only be issued by CASA once all required reports have been received and the medical reviewed by a CASA medical officer;
- Reports and tests are generally acceptable if carried out within three months of a medical, but no earlier.
An applicant must still provide all the required information but the timeframe has been eased to facilitate that process.
The “renew by CASA only” endorsement will continue to be used where there is a need for closer surveillance. With this endorsement only CASA may renew the certificate.
I congratulate CASA on this common sense measure and AOPA will continue to work co-operatively with CASA AVMED on other issues.
